We are excited – and very proud! – of Grace Upshall, one of our year 5 prep school pupils, who won first place in the national ‘Design a Healthy Food Competition’.
What was the competition?
The competition, organised by Discovery Education, invited primary school students in the UK to create a healthy snack or food with an accompanying advert. The motivation behind the project was to educate children about nutrition, and to have them consider what goes into the food we eat and why it’s so important that it’s healthy. Something we too, consider to be important.
As it was a National competition, everyone at this independent prep school in Poole is immensely proud of Grace. It is not only a fantastic achievement for Grace - it’s a fantastic product that she designed.
Grace impressed both her teachers and the judges alike with her healthy cereal bar, considerably packaged to attract the interest of children. The ingredients of the nutritious bar were granola, honey and fruit, topped with yoghurt and coconut – we wish it was real!
Buckholme Towers prep school food policy
At Buckholme Towers School we encourage healthy lifestyles, which is why we have guidelines for the permitted snacks and school lunch meals both provided by us and bought in from home. Every pupil’s wellbeing is of paramount importance to us. Our aim is to ensure that children eat nutritious and healthy food to support their health and immune systems. Our teachers also want to teach them about the importance of a balanced diet; a skill they can take with them after prep school.
At our independent prep school, we support and strive to maintain and implement the UK government’s packed lunch guidelines.
